I know, a strange name for cat, but he is not your average cat.
He came to us as a kitten by way of my son, who had found him alone, cold, damp and dirty in a pile of grass clippings. He was a tiny thing. And although my son would have liked to have kept him, he couldn't due to allergies. But by the time he called me and brought him over, he and his family had already named him Mocha.
As my wife cuddled him to help warm him up and I ran out for some kitten food, she had changed his name to Cocoa. But I still wasn't sure. Anyway after a bath and a little food, we went to bed with the kitten settled in a carrier set on my night stand (where I could reach out and put my fingers through the grate.)
Having been and still working from home, the kitten stayed with me day in and day out. During those days, he would spend hours napping on my desk as I worked and it during this time that I began referring to him as my little man. He seemed to like it and the name stuck.
Every once in a while a pet comes into your life that has an impact on your life. Many years ago when my son was very young, he brought home a black kitten. At that time my son split his week between my house and his mom's, so Cat (his name was Midnight but I always called him Cat) became my cat. After a long life, cat passed away several years ago.
Now Little Man has become my cat (or maybe I have become his human), but regardless he has become a character in many of my writing projects.
And although he no longer fits, he still likes to try to sit on my desk, usually overlapping onto my keyboard and has managed to find settings I never knew existed and had to search to reset.
